Social value is the difference that organisations can make in not just what kind of services they deliver, but how they deliver them. A commercial cafe, for example, may provide a great service, but relatively little social value. A community cafe, by contrast, that does all the things the commercial cafe does, and employs people with learning disabilities, may also provide a great service and create lots of social value via the impact of employing people who often have less opportunity to gain the benefits of a job.

Voscur works with commissioners who design and buy services, and VCSE organisations that would like to deliver services, to help them work together to create the most impact and social value through the delivery of public services.

Voscur’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place on Thursday 26 November. It will include updates from Voscur and the VCSE sector, and look at the theme of transformation within the sector.

Hartcliffe Community Farm, an 11-acre site in BS13, is available for Community Asset Transfer (CAT) bids, giving community organisations the chance to manage and run the farm buildings, allotments and land as a community hub.

Bristol City Council is looking for groups and organisations with the skills and investment to maximise the site's potential, making it a countryside resource centre that benefits the community.

Voscur invites members to take part in our online Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM), on Wednesday 30 September.

Voscur has recently undertaken a governance review in line with Charity Commission guidance, as our current Memorandum & Articles date back to 2012. #NeverMoreNeeded charity sector campaign
27 April, 2020

A new social media campaign, #NeverMoreNeeded, has highlighted the increasingly vital role that our Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector organisations play in society during the coronavirus pandemic.

The campaign, which launched just ahead of the BBC's Big Night In fundraising programme and the UK-wide Two Point Six Challenge, has been driven by leading VCSE sector organisations such as Charity Comms, Third Sector, NCVO, Charity Finance Group, Locality, the Directory of Social Change (DSC), and ACEVO.

The West of England Civil Society Partnership (WoECSP) has outlined the role that many Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector organisations are playing in coordinated efforts to respond to coronavirus.

At this challenging time, the VCSE sector in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire is working in partnership with:

We are cautiously optimistic following the UK government’s announcement of £750m worth of aid to charities as part of its response to coronavirus, including £370m allocated to small and medium-sized charities.

Whilst it is unclear how the money will be distributed, this is hopefully the first stage of government relief efforts to support the VCSE sector.

Here’s what we know so far:

24 March, 2020

Coronavirus has had a local, national and global impact, and we know that many of Bristol's community groups and organisations are balancing increased demand for services with workforce challenges, from self-isolation and illness to adjusting to online working.

Now more so than ever, Voscur aims to support the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector as much as possible, and that includes being aware of financial struggles.

12 March, 2020

March has so far been a strange month for the VCSE sector, as the local and national picture of coronavirus changes every day, and Voscur members make their business plans as flexible as possible (you may want to bookmark our new coronavirus briefing).
