Climate emergency Bristol

Voscur has joined a range of other public organisations in declaring a climate emergency and adopted a Climate Action Policy that addresses more strategic issues and sets out some newer ways of working. The climate emergency was declared at the Voscur AGM by Chief Executive Sandra Meadows, and was followed by a speech from Joy Carey, from Bristol Food Network, part of the sustainable food campaign Going for Gold Bristol

The government is proposing that charitable trusts should be exempt from registering with the Trusts Registration Service.

The announcement was made in a technical consultation on the Fifth EU Anti-Money Laundering Directive (5AMLD) on the 24 January.

Bristol’s City Office has launched a new iteration of the One City Plan. 

Launched in January 2019, the One City Plan consists of targets for 2050 on a range of socioeconomic factors that impact people’s lives in the city, as well as providing a blueprint for achieving these targets. 

It covers six main themes, including health and wellbeing, environment, connectivity, homes and communities, economy and learning and skills.

Earlier this year Bristol City Council consulted on its Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy for 2019-2024. It is currently recommissioning Rough Sleeping Services, with a view to new contracts being in place at the start of October 2020.

Carers Support Bristol

Carers of all ages in Bristol are invited to share their views in a survey, to help inform a new strategy for Carers Support Services in the city.

The government is investing up to £11.8 million in additional funding for breakfast clubs in order to support disadvantaged families.

So far around 1,800 school breakfast clubs have been created or improved by the National School Breakfast Programme.

Over 100 charities have signed a statement warning the government against abolishing the Department for International Development (DfID).

It is thought that a huge shake-up of Whitehall departments will be announced either in tomorrow’s Queen’s Speech or early next year after the 31 January Brexit deadline.

This is expected to include merging DfID’s aid functions into the Foreign Office.

Land use think tank, Shared Assets, has released new research which aims to provide a detailed snapshot of common good land use in England.

Shared Assets is a social enterprise think and do tank that promotes land management for the common good, rather than personal gain.

The group estimates that there are 900 of these groups in the UK and the report maps their activities, as well as their structures and needs.

 

Land use think tank, Shared Assets, offers a range of different resources to support people and community groups that manage land for the common good.

These range from interactive toolkits on tenure models for community or land based enterprises, to written guides on growing food in parks, as well as various reports and research.
