Grants are now available to help communities celebrate Windrush Day in 2020, educating local people about the Windrush Generation's contribution to British social, economic and cultural life.
The government has created the grant scheme to help charities, Community Interest Companies (CICs), local authorities and community groups fund their celebrations, involving people from all ages and all backgrounds.
Windrush Day takes place on 22 June. It remembers the docking of the ship MV Empire Windrush on 21 June 1948 in Tilbury; passengers disembarked the following day and begun their new lives in Britain. The entire Windrush Generation is celebrated on the day - this includes all those who emigrated from the Caribbean to settle in Britain from 1948-1971, their families and descendents, and the wider British Caribbean community.
Funding will range from small grants of £2,500 to large grants of £25,000, and you are encouraged to describe any extra sources of funding in your bid. If you are looking for less than £2,500 worth of funding, you may want to contact your local authority, or contact Voscur for help collaborating with other groups in a partnership bid.
Though next year's events will centre around 22 June 2020, bids will be accepted for activities that may take place over a longer period of time (with the final date of activity being 31 December 2020).
Applications close on Sunday 8 December 2019. For more details and to apply, click here.
