What's the right impact measurement tool for you?
Measuring the impact of our work is not always easy but it can help us make an even bigger difference to the communities we work for, and put us in a stronger position when applying for future funding or promoting our services to new clients and partners.
But which tool or approach is best when it comes to measuring impact? The Guardian’s Voluntary Sector Network recently compared some of the options. Being clear about why you are measuring impact in the first place is crucial to choosing the right tool for your group or organisation. The article contrasts quantitative and qualitative approaches, suggests the sort of organisation for which each is best suited, and provides helpful case studies. To read the article, click here.
Of course, some smaller groups may still feel unsure when it comes to choosing a tool that is suitable for them. Existing methods are often too complicated for voluntary organisations with limited resources, or not robust enough to convince funders. To address this difficulty, Voscur has been a partner in ‘Proving Our Value,’ a regional project that is developing a range of methods for different types of voluntary organisation to measure and communicate the social value of their work. What Voscur learns from this project should help us advise and support local groups in selecting an approach to impact measurement that is right for them.
