The volunteer organisers of the Volunteer Organisers Forum (got that?), supported by Voscur, have been working hard behind the scenes to develop something much asked for! An online space for Volunteer Organisers to chat, ask and respond to questions, share resources and best practice, and generally save each other time, and effort - as more heads are often better than one! Hosted on Can Do Bristol the ‘Volunteer Organisers Chat’ is actually a series of chat rooms (which anyone can start off, or chat in!) and a place to upload and download files – meaning organisers can ask for example policies, procedures, handbooks or training and others can share how they do things.
For those of you who may not know the Volunteer Organisers Forum was set up as a space for people who manage, coordinate, organise and/or have some responsibility for volunteers within their organisation. A small voluntary team of people, who they themselves organise volunteers or have done so in the past, host a currently quarterly meet up in Bristol, at various locations across the city. Often involving guest speakers/peer learning and sharing, and always involving space and time to network and make connections, VOFs are lively sessions – with the last meeting on the topic of volunteer recruitment attracting 50 plus attendees.
