The City Office, creator and guardian of the Bristol One City Plan, has announced that the Expression of Interest process to join the Culture Board is now open.

Launched in January 2019, Bristol's One City Plan describes where the city aims to be by 2050, and how partners will work together to create a fair, healthy, and sustainable city.

The One City Plan has been co-designed with communities and hundreds of partners in different organisations across Bristol, bringing together a wide range of public, private, and VCSE partners, and is overseen by the City Office, run be a small team based in Bristol’s City Hall who take an integrated approach to governance. The One City Approach recognises that collaboration across sectors will help to reduce inequalities in society and have a long-term positive impact as shared goals of the plan are worked on.

The One City Plan has six core themes and each has its own vision for 2050 and its own board to oversee the delivery of the related goals. The boards are spaces where partners come together and discuss strategic direction. All the themes within the One City Plan are underpinned by the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which provide an internationally recognised framework to benchmark the city’s aspirations and progress.

The role of the Culture Board is to work with the existing One City Boards to ensure Bristol’s creative sector is a key driver in delivering the aims of the One City Approach and the One City Plan goals. The Culture Board will help ensure that Bristol’s stories are told and heard, and its uniquely diverse and vibrant city is celebrated. It will foster more opportunities, and develop more spaces and programmes to help the industry now, and for future generations to support local talent and make Bristol a city of hope and aspiration, where everyone can share in its success.

As part of the Expression of Interest process, the City Office is looking for a diverse range of members to make up the Culture Board, who can help deliver, inform and influence the priorities of the six thematic boards over the next 18 months.
