As part of the Bristol Community Climate Action project, funded by the National Lottery’s Climate Action Fund, six organisations representing some of Bristol’s most disadvantaged communities have co-produced climate action plans, identifying key priorities to help deliver Bristol’s 2030 carbon neutral ambition.  

Voscur were asked to take part in the peer review process and we gave feedback to the contributing organisations, Ambition Lawrence Weston, ACH, Bristol Disability Equality Forum, Heart of BS13, Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust, and Eastside Community Trust, to help them refine their draft plans. We were hugely impressed by the ambition and drive of the organisations, both of which are of course fundamental requirements for tackling the climate crisis we are facing. 

Following the round-table review process the community organisations developed their drafts and have now produced the final plans. To celebrate the leadership role communities are taking, Bristol Green Capital Partnership today hosted the launch of Bristol’s first Community Climate Action Plan where those individual, local schemes were presented.  

Priorities range from new green jobs for refugees and young people, to closed loop food systems that tackle waste and food insecurity; from the generation of community owned renewable energy on local buildings to creating a bespoke ‘Repair Hub’ enabling the community of Disabled people to save money and reduce waste. 

Event participants also had the opportunity to listen to some engaging and knowledgeable expert speakers and explore:  

• how to engage diverse communities with the subject of climate emergency;  
• the process of co-creating a community climate action plan; and  
• the climate and quality of life priorities held by different Bristol communities. 

To identify your own set of actions to help meet the city’s target of becoming carbon neutral by 2030, a good place to start is the Bristol Climate Hub which has great ideas for how communities as well as individuals and businesses can take powerful climate action.
