We are currently recruiting for an additional Key Volunteer at Bath City Farm to work with two youth groups. The aim of these groups is to improve and strengthen the emotional well-being, physical health and self-belief of children and young people in the local area who are facing challenging life circumstances. Activities vary depending on the season and the work needed on the farm’s beautiful site. Across the year sessions will include farm animal care, site maintenance, gardening and growing, arts and crafts, conservation, cooking and more.
A Key Volunteer is required to help assist the Project Coordinator with the activities mentioned above, sometimes leading small groups in tasks within the larger club. Groups take place on Tuesdays 3.45-5.45pm with our 11-16-year-olds group, and on Thursdays 3.45-5.45pm with our 5-11-year-olds. The groups run term time only, with some sessions over the holidays on an ad-hoc basis. Applicants can specify just one of these groups to support or both if they’d prefer.
Volunteers will have the opportunity to provide meaningful support to children and young people as well as learn and consolidate new practical skills. Perhaps you have a skill you would like to teach and share as well! An interest in or experience of some of the session activities is ideal as well.
The youth groups support young people from the local area who are facing challenging life circumstances. At the farm, we provide them with a space to be themselves, feel safe and supported and build confidence and skills. Our key volunteers are given full inductions and access to the farm’s training opportunities. For them, it’s a great opportunity to build confidence and gain transferable workplace skills.
The Key volunteer will be provided with a challenging and varied work experience role, work as part of a welcoming and friendly team and be offered training and support. Prior experience of working with children and young people or animals is a bonus but not essential.
Fill in our Volunteer Application form and email it to Sally (sally@bathcityfarm.org.uk) during term time, or Polly (polly@bathcityfarm.org.uk) during school holidays. Please specify the project applied for (either 5-11 group or 11-16 group). Please detail your prior experience working with children and young people (if any), your availability and the length of time you plan to volunteer with us (we ask for a 6 month minimum commitment). Sally, Polly or another staff member will get back to you as soon as possible. We may invite you to come to the farm for a visit or to speak on the phone. All applicants will need to provide two professional references and will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check once their application has been successful.
In the meantime, if you would like more information about the farm you can read the volunteer policy attached to this advert (emphasis on key volunteer role) or visit our website: https://www.bathcityfarm.org.uk/
