The government has published further information on how its £750 million package of support will be divided amongst the charity sector.

The funding was announced last month and includes and allocation of £360 million that will be distributed to charities directly by government departments.

A further £370 million will be distributed to small charities and in England this will be managed by the National Lottery Community Fund.

According to Civil Society, the following sums of money will be distributed to government departments:

Education

  • £26 million will be spent by the Department for Education, supporting charities working with vulnerable families, including those with disabled children and children leaving care. Childline will also receive a share of the funding.

Domestic abuse

  • The Ministry of Justice will spend £25 million helping domestic violence and sexual abuse charities.
  • £10 million will be spent by the Department for Housing, Local Government on providing safe accommodation to families fleeing their homes from domestic abuse.
  • The Home Office will spend almost £4 million supporting local domestic abuse services and organisations fighting modern slavery.
  • It will also spend £7.8 million to support charities helping children at risk of sexual abuse or criminal exploitation.

Further announcements are expected in the near future as more government departments have their funding requests approved.
