The Charity Commission has extended legislation allowing charities to hold online AGMs to 30 December.

The section of the Corporate Insolvency and Governance Act was brought in to allow charities to be run under coronavirus restrictions.

Part of the act allows charitable companies and charitably incorporated organisations (CIOs) to hold AGMs and other members meetings online.

For other types of meetings, or for any other type of charity, trustees need to check if their charity’s governing document allows them to hold meetings online or by telephone. 

The legislation was previously set to expire on the 30 September but has now been extended by a month due to continued lockdown restrictions in some parts of the country.
